27/02/01 - Man facing murder charge
Evening Echo
A man was today (Monday) appearing in court charged with the fatal stabbing of young dad Danny Davis - a year after his killing.
The father-of-one, of Waldegrave, Basildon, died after being stabbed once in the buttock on Saturday, February 19, last year. A major investigation was launched.
However, officers spent four months looking at the wrong scene after an expert police dog traced scent to the car park of the Barge pub, in Clay Hill Road, Vange.
Mr Davis, who left behind a four-year-old son, had visited the pub earlier that evening but further investigations found he had actually met his fate on the Ryedene estate opposite the pub.
A fresh investigation involving fingertip searches and house-to-house questioning was then launched.
Now, one year and one week after the tragedy, 26-year-old Jamal Timberland James - also known as Alex Barry Henderson or London DJ MC Kid - of Basildon, is to appear at Basildon Magistrates' Court today charged with murder.
He was arrested in Basildon on Saturday.
Det Sgt John Moran, of Rayleigh major investigations unit, said: "We will be continuing our investigations in light of information from initial interviews with the defendant."
