13/05/06 - Lee Balkwell Murder : The Unanswered Questions

(1) Why didn't Essex police interview any significant witness following Lee's death?

(2) Why did Essex police ignore the fact that Lee died in his own clothing rather than the work clothes he would have been wearing if his death resulted from an industrial accident?

(3) Why did Essex police edit out 3 or 4 "views" from the CCTV footage of the yard taken at the time of Lee's death.

(4) Why did senior police officers "allow" Lees toxicology sample to become contaminated rendering it useless in any future criminal proceedings.

(5) Why did police officers lie to Lee's family about the way Lee died? Essex police gave three totally different accounts.

(6) Why did officers lie about Simon Bromley, one of the "men" suspected of murdering Lee? Four versions of a story were given concerning drug tests on him.

(7) Why did Essex police ignore what was clearly a significant drug deal being carried out on the CCTV footage.

(8) Why did the scenes of crimes officer in this case want to meet in a lay-by or quiet pub with Lee Balkwells father? When Mr Balkwell pointed out his family were not seedy crooks and refused to take part in any such meeting he was invited to Rayleigh police station.Upon his arrival he was led in through a side gate and shown into a side room. It was made clear to Mr Balkwell that stirring up "a hornets nest" would not be helpful. Helpful to whom was not explained.

(9) Why did Essex police fail to follow up the "police actions" which were requested by the first police Superintendent on the scene?

(10) Why was the "Kango drill" Lee was supposed to have been using inside the drum of the concrete mixer when he died found 10ft away from the vehicle he was trapped in and died in. One officer has stated that Simon Bromley "had a tidy up" whilst awaiting the emergency services. A scenario any level headed person would find hard to believe.

(11) Why did Essex police burn Lees clothing before the Crown Prosecution Service had made ANY decision about potential proceedings and before any inquest was held?

(12) How could the CPS possibly make ANY form of decision without a post mortem report and without a forensic report? Lee was murdered on the 18th of August 2002. THIRTY SIX DAYS LATER; The police had not only completed their investigation and destroyed all of the evidence by burning Lees clothing etc.The CPS had received the police "report", considered it, wrote back to Essex police and concluded there would be no further action. IT TAKES THEM AT LEAST 21 DAYS TO ISSUE A PARKING TICKET....
